The recent Lib Dems petition for a secondary school in Southwater is misleading - it starts from an unsupported premise that there are insufficient secondary school places in the district and very importantly does not tell us that the price of a school is a very significant increase in the number of new houses which will be imposed on the village.
Take a look at the survey launched by our local MP which at least focusses on schooling needs and raises the inevitable tradeoff of huge numbers of houses in return for a school.
Save Rural Southwater raised this important concern with the Lib Dems back in September and has repeated it since. As the elected representatives of our village it is their duty and indeed it was their pre-election promise to protect our countryside and that is what the village expects to them to do.
